Nigerian youngster linked with move to Turkey
FC Porto defender Chidozie Awaziem has been linked with a move to Turkish club Trabzonspor as the January transfer window progresses.
According to reports, Awaziem is believed to have now joined Efe Ambrose as the latest Nigerian to attract the Turkish club's attention which means the two country's established defenders are on the cards to join fellow countryman Onazi.
However, while Ambrose is seeking a full transfer, after opting out of a contract extension with Hibernian of Scotland, Awaziem is looking at the possibility of joining Onazi’s club on loan.
Awaziem, who played under similar circumstances at FC Nantes of France last season, and excelled during that time, is seeking another short-term deal that would help him improve his technique in Trabzon, Turkey.
Although Awaziem is said to have previously garnered the attention of another Portuguese club, Martimo, the suitors are 15th on the top-flight table and facing possible relegation to the second division.
The Nigerian player has reportedly played 98 minutes of competitive action so far this season and featured in three appearances for Porto’s B-team in the Portuguese second division.
Rather than face the challenges of battling against relegation in the second half of the season, the 22-year-old Awaziem, who has played just two major games for Porto this season, is said to prefer joining Onazi in Turkey.
It would likely be the best possible chance to gain a lift heading into the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations for Awaziem, whose biggest game for Porto this season came in the UEFA Champions League.
