Kane talks big ahead of Man United clash

11 Jan 2019, 11:35

Tottenham Hotspur’s Harry Kane feels the time is ripe for them to win at least a title this season.

The North Londoners are in contention of four titles thus far: the Champions League where they will play Borussia Dortmund, the Carabao semi-final against Chelsea, the FA and the Premier League. They sit six points below league leaders Liverpool though but are pretty much in it.

"I've said all along that the aim of a professional footballer is to win team trophies. There will be no better feeling than to win something with these guys, we've all worked so hard over the last three or four years to turn Spurs into a team that contends each and every year.

"We're in a good stage, we're in a semi-final [Carabao Cup] with a 1-0 lead, we're in the FA Cup and Champions League and we're not too far off in the Premier League, although there is a long way to go. So far, so good, but it's this stage of the season that we have just fallen behind in the past so it is important this year that we step it up, work even harder and go into these games and try and bring it home.” Kane told Sky Sports.

The England captain explained that the lack of transfer activity last summer was just a confirmation of the trust Mauricio Pochetino has on his players. He feels the only way to repay the trust is to try and win one of the titles at the season end.

"The manager didn't want to bring players in for the sake of it, he was happy with the squad he had. That gives you huge belief as a player. If the manager doesn't buy players it shows he is willing to trust and you want to repay him by working hard and improving yourself on the pitch. We've got a lot of players fighting for places and the competition for places is good.” he explained.

Spurs will play host to Manchester United on Sunday for the return league clash. Man United remains unbeaten in the Ole Gunnar Solskjaer era.
