Ugandan defender Shafiq Batambuze is confident his team Gor Mahia will be third time lucky in the Super Cup currently undergoing in Tanzania.

The defender who joined the team at the start of the year from Tanzania side Singida United said he is now part of a great team after failing to make it make it to the finals of the competition in his last two attempts.

“I’m part of a great team now and they are the champions, so my goal is to help retain the title and we can get another chance to play against Everton, this time in Africa. I’ve not been fortunate enough to make it to the final but this time around I’m confident that we will play in Sunday’s match,” Batambuze is quoted by the Sportpesa News portal.

The defender further asserted that as a team they were going to take each game as they came and admitted it will be a tough duel against opponents despite him asserting that they were well prepared for the showpiece.

“I’m happy to be back in Tanzania, it’s like home as well. It’s great to see my friends and play at the National Stadium once again. We are preparing well for the tournament and we will treat the game just like any other, give our best performance and take it from there.

“We know how tough it will be with every team itching to play against Everton but we are prepared to retain the trophy and play them again, this time at home,” Batambuze added.

Gor Mahia takes on Mbao FC in their first game of the 2019 showpiece on Wednesday and will hope to be the third Kenyan team to qualify for the semis after Bandari and Kariobangi Sharks made it to the semis in the first day.
