Man City takes giant step into Carabao Cup final with Burton win

Manchester City have progressed to the Carabao Cup final after beating Burton Albion 1-0 at the Pirelli Stadium in the second leg match.

They had won the initial encounter with a big margin of 9 goals to nil and tonight's encounter was just a formality that also saw Pep Guardiola fielded a rather amateur side. Aguero scored the only goal for the cup holders and that means they are into the final with a 10-0 goal margin.

Fabian Delph saw Riyadh Mahrez in an open space and put the ball on his path but the winger could not get it right as he fired across goal. He would have done better by setting Aguero who was lurking around in the 12th minute.

Boyce failed to beat Muric in goal after a Burton goal-kick was delivered into the box. Boyce’s shot was weak and could not trouble the young goalkeeper in goal as the match entered its first quarter.

10th City goal

Aguero scored the opening goal in the 26th minute after Kevin De Bruyne beat his marker and the tackle from the marker in midfield and played Mahrez. The Algerian waited and before passing it to Aguero who scored the 10th goal for the title holders in the tie.

Aguero missed from some 10 yards when Foden, who was initially offside, put the ball on his path but the Argentine blasted it wide open at the hour mark. Boyce was the culprit again as he squandered another Burton chance after Sandler slipped to give Burton’s man a clear run on goal. Muric denied him on the first instance and the rebound ball met Miller whose strike is blocked by Garcia offline in the 72nd minute.

"That miss in the 61st minute was a moment to forget for Sergio Aguero. Those are the kind of chances he puts away in his sleep but he somehow missed the target when it looked easier to score. It proved to be his last involvement, with Gabriel Jesus replacing him soon after, and the Argentine was interrogated by his team-mates on the bench as to how he did manage to miss." Jack Wilkinson at the Pirelli Stadium told Skys Sports.
