CAFCL: Ogbeide believes Lobi Stars will bounce back
Nigeria's Lobi Stars suffered a 1-0 loss to Morrocan giants Wydad Casablanca in their group stage fixture in the ongoing CAF Champions League on Saturday, February 2 at Nnamdi Azikwe stadium.
The Nigerian team failed to capitalize on home advantage as they failed to pick any points falling one nil to current table toppers Wydad at their adopted home ground in Enugu despite having a more improved second-half performance.
Head coach Solomon Ogbeide, however, suggested that all hope is not yet lost for Lobi as they are confident of making it out of the group stage of the competition.
“We are disappointed in the result but this does not mean we are out of the competition," Ogbeide said.
"We still have three more games in the group stage though we will be going to play away in two of those but we are confident we can get results away from home despite how difficult people may think it is.”
Wydad Casablanca took the lead in the 29th minute through Mohammed Nahiri after Lobi defender Sanni Mama Bah-Yere fouled Wydad’s striker in the box.
The Moroccan team failed to increase their lead when Nahiri missed a second penalty in the second half of the encounter.
With the win Wydad Casablanca leapfrogs Mamelodi Sundowns of South Africa to go top of the group on six points with a superior goal difference while Lobi is third on the log on three points with ASEC Mimosa is bottom of the log after three games also on three points.
Lobi’s next game in the CAF Champions league is a return trip to Morocco to face Wydad on Tuesday, February 12 at the Stade Prince Moulay Abdallah.
