KPL top scorer elated by fine form
Ulinzi Stars striker Enosh Ochieng is happy with his current form as he targets to help his side to finish in a respectable position this season.
Ochieng is enjoying good scoring form, having already played 12 matches this season, netting seven goals. The forward’s fine form comes on the back of a troubled campaign last year when he had to sit out most of the season with a metatarsal injury. He has already surpassed his tally of five goals last season and as he enjoys his best season ever, the soft-spoken forward can only thank God for the turnaround in fortunes.
“I thank God for the great form I have had since my return from injury last season. Last year was tough for me because I had to stay out for much of it and could only manage five goals. I started this season hoping to make up for the lost time and I am happy it is already bearing fruit,” he told the Ulinzi Stars website team.
He currently holds an advantage of two goals ahead of his closest challengers in the top scorers’ race but he isn’t focused on the short term, only on helping the team rise from a slow start to the campaign.
He says the coach and teammates have been key to his rise in form and hopes to see more of that heading to the coming matches.
“I can’t relax now, and it is not just about me; when I score a goal, it lifts the team and I want to keep doing that for the team. The coach has been encouraging me and also pushing me to go for more and my teammates have been supportive too, providing me with the passes and crosses and I thank them a lot,” he adds.
His humility doesn’t allow him to state for a fact how many goals he wants to score in the campaign, but his ambition can’t be faulted, Enosh wants the Golden Boot, consistency and good results for the team.
“I am a forward player, my job is to score and provide to my teammates to score as well. So in any game, I go to, I will be targeting to score. And of course as forwards we always want to be top scorers, so while I can’t say exactly how many goals I want, I am sure I’d like to win the Golden Boot. If I can get that and also help my team finish in a respectable position, I’d term it a perfect season,” he notes.
After scoring in the last two matches, Enosh will hope to spread the good form to the game against AFC Leopards at Kenyatta Stadium, Machakos on Sunday 17th February.
“I want to be consistent in scoring and I want the team to be consistent in getting positive results. I guess that says all that we will be targeting in the game against AFC Leopards,” he concludes.
