Emery using Arsenal to prove his worth, claims football analyst
Football analyst and writer John Cross has claimed Unai Emery is using Arsenal to prove that he is a top coach.
Arsenal have seen themselves post inconsistent results in the recent past and that has been coupled by Mesut Ozil's omission by the Spanish coach. Cross believes that Emery has never reached a level where he is regarded as an A-list coach and that he is using Arsenal to prove he can deliver in a big club.
"Of course, you have to give Emery time, but I wonder whether it would have been wise to go for the young coach - the Mikel Arteta, the Brendan Rodgers - someone who would have made a difference in improving the players. Make no mistake about it, Emery is using Arsenal as a vehicle to try and prove he is an A-lister coach because he's not reached that level previously." Cross told The Sunday Supplement.
Cross went further to question whether the former PSG and Sevilla boss was the right man to succeed Arsene Wenger. He says fans have started questioning the appointment of the manager as he has failed to implement the playing style that Wenger was known for in his early days at Arsenal.
"Arsenal fans are starting to question whether Emery is the right man because they are not playing with any style of flair associated with the great Wenger teams of the past. At the moment, Ozil is the crystallisation of that - they cannot accommodate their most talented player in the Emery system. It brings up the question if Emery was the right appointment." he added.
The Gunners are locked in a tight top-four race with Chelsea and Manchester United and are fifth on the pile.
