Zambian forward bags a brace for Salzburg as Valencia dumps Celtic
Zambian international Patson Daka bagged a brace as his side RedBull Salzburg overcame Belgium side Club Brugge 4-0 (5-2) aggregate in the UEFA Europa League on Thursday at the Redbull Arena.
Despite missing a penalty in the 11th minute, the hosts took the lead in the Xaver Schlagerin the 17th minute before Daka doubled their lead in the 29th minute. Daka was to complete his double and Salzburg third in the 43rd minute as the hosts raced to a 3-0 first half led. Israeli Mumas Dabbar was to score a fourth deep in stoppage time to book his sides place in the round 16 of the competition.
In another match of the evening, Celtic had Jeremy Toljan sent off in the first half as they were eliminated from the Europa League in a 1-0 defeat at Valencia on Thursday, losing 3-0 on aggregate.
Goals from Denis Cheryshev and Ruben Sobrino in Glasgow had left Celtic with a mountain to climb at Mestalla and Toljan's two bookings made their challenge even greater.
The Scottish champions worked hard but with little success and Valencia - with their two-goal and one-man advantage - made sure of their progress through substitute Kevin Gameiro in the 70th minute.
