Barcelona vs Lyon: Messi magic needed after stalemate first leg
Barcelona fired a rare blank in the 0-0 draw at Lyon just under a month ago, but they're favourites to progress here in a tie that we are expecting to contain plenty of goalmouth action.

Barcelona huffed and puffed but couldn't blow the house down against Lyon in the first leg with a 0-0 draw. They'll be confident here, however, after a string of four wins, scoring 11 goals and conceding only three in that sequence since the first leg in Lyon. Two of those wins were at Real Madrid, it has to be said. For their part, Lyon has been among the goals but shown inconsistency with two wins, a draw and a loss from their last four matches across all competitions.
The hosts will have to win here in 90 minutes to avoid the prospect of extra time. Judging by the number of chances they created, and wasted, in the first leg, they should have enough firepower here.
Team news 📰
Philippe Coutinho might start for Barcelona in Wednesday's finely-balanced Champions League tie against Lyon, despite being booed last weekend.
He could replace Ousmane Dembele who suffered a hamstring strain, although Malcom is another option. Defender Thomas Vermaelen remains sidelined with a thigh problem.
Influential attacking midfielder Nabil Fekir is set to return for Lyon having been suspended for the first leg. The 25-year-old has scored 12 goals for the Ligue 1 club this season. Team-mate Martin Terrier said: "When Nabil is on the field, we know what to expect, he's a great player who gives us reassurance. He has already shown his importance on the European scene."
