Manchester United legend, Paul Scholes, has resigned as Oldham Athletic manager, just 31 days after taking the job.

The news broke via Sky Sports on Twitter this evening, after the former Red Devils midfielder led Oldham for just five in the English League Two division.

The club known as the Latics, and based in greater Manchester, duly made a formal statement.

“Oldham Athletic Football Club can confirm that Paul Scholes has resigned from his position as First Team Manager with immediate effect.

“We would like to place on record our thanks to Paul for his efforts during his spell in charge of the club and would like to wish him well for the future.

“An update on the permanent replacement will be made as soon as possible.” said the note on Oldham’s website.

Scholes’ five games:

  • Oldham Athletic 1:1 Stevenage
  • Bury FC 3:1 Oldham Athletic
  • Oldham Athletic 1:2 Morecambe FC
  • Oldham Athletic 1:1 Crewe Alexandra
  • Oldham Athletic 4:1 Yeovil Town.
