Olivier Giroud on a hat-trick as Chelsea humiliate Dynamo Kyiv

Olivier Giroud continued his impressive goal scoring form in the Europa League on Thursday night with a well-deserved hat-trick as Chelsea thrashed Dynamo Kyiv 5-0 to progress into the quarter-finals of the competition on a 8-0 aggregate win.

The Frenchman opened the scoring for Maurizio Sarri’s men early in the match, nodding home from a Willian corner in the fourth minute before grabbing a second in the 33rd minute to make it 2-0 after receiving a perfect cross on his right foot from Marcos Alonso.

The Spaniard turned goalscorer just before the break, making it 3-0 as Chelsea completely dominated the home side and turned the match into a training exhibition.

The Premier League side came into the match on the back of a comfortable 3-0 advantage from the first leg a week ago.

Giroud was at it again after the break, jumping highest to meet Willian’s perfectly taken free kick in the 59th minute for his third goal of the night. A well-deserved hat-trick to make it 4-0 for the Blues.

Callum Hudson-Odoi made it 5-0 for the visiting side with 12 minutes of normal time to play when he was released by Olivier Giroud, surged into the opposition box and smashed a great shot into the top corner after a one-on-one with the goalkeeper.

The draw for the Europa League quarter-finals will be held in Nyon, Switzerland on Friday 15th.
