Arsenal comeback against Rennes to progress into Europa League quarters
A brace from Pierre-Emerick Aubmeyang and a goal from Ainsley Maitland-Niles were enough as Unai Emery’s men overturned a 3-1 defeat suffered in the first leg last week in France.
Arsenal started the game on the front foot and took the lead just five minutes into the match with Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang tapping in from close range from a delicious Aaron Ramsey cross.
The home side extended their lead 10 minutes later when the Gabonese striker produced a lofted pass which Maitland-Niles headed into an empty net.
Arsenal went into the break with a well deserved 2-0 lead.
The away side came back for the second half stronger but lacked any real threat going forward and it's the home side who got the third goal with 18 minutes of normal time to play when Sead Kolasinac slipped the ball to Aubameyang for another easy finish to make it 3-0.
Despite scoring twice, the Arsenal top scorer missed two glorious chances late in the match to completely bury the tie.
Arsenal will know their quarter-final opponents on Friday when the draw is conducted in Nyon, Switzerland.
