Why Sevilla have sacked their manager
La Liga side Sevilla have sacked their manager Pablo Manchin following an embarrassing defeat to Slavia Prague in the Europa League.
Consequently, Joaquin Caparros, the club's Director of Football will take charge of the first team.
"Director of Football, Joaquin Caparros will take the reigns with immediate effect, with Carlos Marchena and Paco Gallardo acting as assistants. The veteran coach will take training today and will be on the Sevilla bench this Sunday when the team travel to Cornella to face Espanyol."
"He will act as coach until the end of the season. Caparros will have experience in this role, having taken over from Vincenzo Montella in similar circumstances last season. Sevilla FC wants to thank Pablo Machin and his staff for the work they have done at the club. We wish them all the best for the future."
Sevilla sit just five points behind fourth-placed Getafe and were beaten 3-4 by Slavia Prague after extra time on Thursday for a 6-5 aggregate defeat. Sevilla exited the Copa del Rey at the quarter-final stage, being thrashed 6-3 on aggregate by Barcelona despite winning the first leg 2-0.
Machin, 43, joined from Girona in May.
