Richards Bay coach applauds Sangweni's professionalism

Richards Bay FC head coach Brandon Truter has acknowledged the signing of Thamsanqa Sangweni and the leadership it has brought to his team.

Sangweni who was with Chippa United until he cut ties with them back in January signed a short-term deal with that would see him in KwaZulu Natal until the end of the 2018/19 season.

Sangweni made his maiden debut in Richards Bay's goalless draw against Ajax Cape Town on Friday, March 15.

"He lasted for 90 minutes, I'm not sure I think you guys [the media] said Maritzburg [United] didn't sign him because he is unfit. He's trained a week and he is playing 90 minutes, so how can he be unfit? I'm very happy about his performance," Truter told KickOff.

"And he brings some leadership and professionalism, you understand? His quality just rubs off onto the guys around him... good performance, solid performance, he brought some stability in midfield and some structure as well and his tactical discipline is much better because of his experience and his communication. He is a true leader and I'm happy to have him in the team.

"Ja if we make it [to promotion] then, of course, that's... we'll sign him as well if we make it to the playoffs. I'm sure he will also want to see what happens, but he needed to play some games, get some games under his belt and how can I say it now... and get his name back on track and get him out in the market so everybody can see he can still play.

"For us, it's about reinforcing or strengthening and trying to get to the playoffs. So I think we are both helping each other and I think we're just waiting to see what happens at the end of the season.

"Look he's still... he's quality, he can still play PSL you understand? I understand why he wanted a short-term contract and then we'll speak after that."

Richards Bay FC are currently fifth in the National First Division having tallied 36 points from 24 matches - five points away from third place which guarantees a promotion playoff.
