Pirates ace Memela: We want to win the league, can't be second again
Orlando Pirates forward, Luvuyo Memela, has openly let it out that the Sea Robbers are gunning for the Absa Premiership title.
Pirates, who are fresh from getting dumped out of the CAF Champions League last weekend, are currently placed third on the PSL log with three points behind leaders Mamelodi Sundowns and have seven games left.
“Obviously we want to win the league, because last season we were at number two, so what better position other than number one can we be in now,” Memela told Kick Off.
The footballer from Paarl’s Mbekweni revealed the style of play that Pirates depend on to succeed.
“We can’t be number two again. I can understand last season we were getting used to the coaches, so we were number two, but now we understand everything they want in our game – the half spaces, breaking the lines, finding number-10s, and all that.
“So, I think it’s going to push us as players, because most of the time we like to say, ‘No, we’re just taking it one game at a time’, but we have to be honest – we want to win the league and we must push for it,” said Memela who’s already marked two goals and three assists since returning in February from a long injury lay off.
Pirates will be next in action on 29 March against Black Leopards.
