Match preview 🖊
Optimism is rife in the England camp after they answered all of their critics to reach the World Cup semifinals and then kicked on with progress to the UEFA Nations League semifinals. Their task now is to focus on qualifying for Euro 2020, which looks very manageable given they have been drawn with Bulgaria, Czech Republic, Montenegro and Kosovo.
Jadon Sancho is widely expected to start on the right-hand side for England if, as expected, Marcus Rashford fails to shake off an injury. The Czechs are likely to adopt a cautious approach - six of their last seven matches have been settled by a one-goal margin and both teams scored on just three occasions during that sequence. Indeed, England has kept clean sheets in three of their last five matches and they’ll be confident of keeping one here.
Skipper Harry Kane has scored 15 goals in his last 17 Three Lions starts, and that undoubtedly makes him one to watch, alongside exciting new talents Jadon Sancho and Declan Rice who both have a good chance of starting.
Team news 📰
Gareth Southgate has had five players withdraw from his original squad through injury, with James Ward-Prowse and potential debutant Callum Hudson-Odoi drafted in as replacements. Luke Shaw, John Stones, Ruben Loftus-Cheek, Trent Alexander-Arnold and Fabian Delph are all unavailable. The Czechs must do without Tomas Vaclik but other than that, they are at full strength.
