Match preview 🖊

Didier Deschamps' France team suffered an agonising defeat in the final of this competition on home soil back in 2016 against Portugal, but they made up for that in some style by galloping to the World Cup title last year in Russian. Now, the focus will turn to continental domination for a young, hungry, balanced side packed with stars of all ages.

The path to qualification appears to be a relatively simple one for France, with Albania, Andorra, Iceland and Turkey alongside Moldova - providing the opposition in Group H. The task for Moldova in this opener isn't an enviable one, where they'll try to keep the score down as much as possible against a fearsome attack.

Moldova has on only three of their last 29 fixtures and all were against San Marino. In contrast, France has lost just two of their last 25 matches. It really is David vs Goliath here with World number 170 hosting World number 2.

Team news 📰

Moldova key midfielder Alexandru Gatcan is not in the squad and will need to be replaced in the centre of the park.

Manchester United winger Anthony Martial has withdrawn from France's squad due to a knee injury and has been replaced by Atletico Madrid's Thomas Lemar. Neither Benjamin Mendy nor Lucas Hernandez is part of France's squad for the international break, which presents an opportunity for Everton's Lucas Digne and PSG's Layvin Kurzawa to stake a claim. The omission of Premier League stars Aymeric Laporte & Alex Lacazette just highlights the incredible depth of talent at Deschamps' disposal.
