Morgan: Arsenal won't miss Ramsey
Ramsey is set to join Juventus at the end of the current season having already signed a five-year contract with the Italian giants. And Pires has hit out at those slamming Arsenal for letting the midfielder leave on a free transfer. The move has surprised many, especially given his prominent role in Unai Emery’s team, with the club facing criticism for letting another of their top players leave for nothing.
Speaking to Alan Brazil Sports Breakfast, Morgan said, “Aaron Ramsey reminds me of Olivier Giroud – they’re both very good footballers, but honestly we haven’t missed Giroud at all since he left and I don’t think we’re going to miss Ramsey anything like the way people keep going on about it."
“The truth is, Ramsey for the last few years has been a perfectly good player in the team, but under Emery, he hasn’t started that many games. Recently he’s started playing well because he’s got his big deal and good luck to him. He’s been a good servant to the team.
“But Ramsey has been part of the least successful Arsenal team over a decade-long period that we’ve probably ever had. So let’s get things in perspective. We need world class players to come in. I think we’ve got some in the team.
“Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Alexandre Lacazette are beginning to show that they’re pretty formidable as a forward duo, Mesut Ozil is world class when he fancies it but doesn’t fancy it enough, and I think we’re seeing some of the other come through as well."
