Torreira's father hints at Arsenal exit, return to Italy
Torreira joined the Gunners last summer from Sampdoria and has become a key player under boss Unai Emery. The Italian has impressed, winning hearts of Arsenal fans, helping the club to be in the contention for Champions League spot next season. Ricardo has revealed the midfielder came close to joining Napoli but Arsenal was quick to secure his services.
'It's true, Lucas was very close to Napoli," he said to Radio Marte.
"There were negotiations with Napoli, but something strange happened, and you know in the transfer market things can change from one moment to the next. Negotiations are long and complicated processes, so it can happen than they don't go the way we expected.
"There was this opportunity to go to England and Lucas took it, so I have to say he is happy at Arsenal. The 23-year-old has played in 29 of Arsenal's 30 Premier League matches this season but his dad hinted he may be keen to move to Napoli if the prospect of a move materialized again."
"Obviously, Lucas is very fond of Italian football, where he grew up, and might return to Italy in future. You can never say never, so it's possible he could come back to this marvelous country and, why not to Napoli or another club that makes an offer?"
The 23-year-old is currently serving a three-match suspension following his red card against Tottenham Hotspur.
