Paul Merson has argued that Gareth Bale will be a good fit for Manchester United next season but added that he will not help them bag the Premier League title.

Rumours of Bale's exit at Real Madrid have been reported all season and many pundits have predicted that the Wales international will make a return to the Premier League. Merson, writing for The Daily Star, has argued that Bale would be a good addition for Man United but the chances of him winning them the league are minimal.

"Manchester United looks like the best fit for him. They’ve tried to sign him before and it didn’t come off, but he’s always felt like their kind of player. They will be on a rebuild next season and there could be lots of ins and outs at Old Trafford. They are also one of the only teams who could afford him," Merson claimed.

Merson ruled out Bale making his way back to Tottenham Hotspur and he said that financial constraints will rule the London club out of the race.

"It’s probably worth the gamble if you’re United. But I don’t think Gareth Bale wins you the title if you’re United. They need more than that. I’m sure Tottenham fans would love to have him back. But with their money situation and the new stadium to finance there, it would be a big problem for them. When was the last time Spurs invested big money in a player who’s going to be 30 this year? Maybe if they don’t finish in the top four and they’re under pressure from the fans to take a gamble but it’s not really Daniel Levy’s way is it? Bale's potential move back to the Premier League comes amid news that" Merson concluded.
