Charles Odette's own goal and goals from James Situma and Harun Junior ensured Mathare pick up maximum points as they moved third on the log with 34 points. Despite Rangers fighting so hard in the second half, they only managed to score only one goal, a consolation one thanks to Calvin Odongo's superb shot from outside the box.
The Slam Boys, coming from the 1-2 loss to Kakamega Homeboys last week, started the match on a high tempo as they looked to bounce from the defeat. Rangers' Eliud Emase was forced to come off his line early in the match to parry Oduor's cross and recovered on time to make a decent save from Kevin Kimani's follow up.
The hosts took the lead in the 14th minute however through an own goal. John Mwangi delivered a cross into the dangerous area which was met by sliding Charles Odette, deflecting the ball into his own net.
Fourteen minutes later, James Situma doubled Mathare's lead with a towering header at the back post, connecting from Kimani's delivery from a freekick on the right.
It was raining goals at Machakos Stadium as in the 35th minute Mathare got their third goal through Harun Junior. Andrew Juma squared the ball into Harun's path with a looping header and the defender made no mistake extending Mathare's lead into three.
Mathare lost the ball in the midfield and Calvin Odongo decided to take the matter in his own hand, taking a long shot from outside the box and into the top corner. Okello stood no chance of saving it, and Rangers had what many would call a consolation goal.
