Fabregas feels sorry for Wenger after fan abuse during final years

01 Apr 2019, 16:45

Former Arsenal star Cesc Fabregas has reflected on the tormenting final years of Arsene Wenger as the Gunners manager.

The Spanish midfielder was signed by Wenger to Arsenal aged just 14, before later enjoying some of his brightest years in the Premier League with the North London giants.

However, the closing years of Wenger's departure in 2018 after two decades at the club, were marred by gross fan abuse who wanted the Frenchman out of the club.

“Some moments I was sad yes, He doesn’t deserve it for what he’s done,” his former player Fabregas said to beIn Sports today.

“In football, it’s all about today. What you’ve done yesterday, unfortunately, doesn’t count.

“When you retire after twenty, thirty years people will talk about it and remember it like wow what they did.

Fabgras, now 31 years old, left Arsenal in 2011 with a FA Cup winners medal and over 200 appearances.

“Right now you need to perform today, this is the world we live in. It’s great because you cannot live in the past. I will be able to live in the past when I’m thirty-eight and I retire and hang up my boots it will be perfect as I can see videos of myself scoring goals every single day,” concluded the Spaniard who now plays for AC Monaco in France.
