Virgil van Dijk: We have perfect plan to stop Messi
The Reds booked a date with the Spanish giants after strolling to a comfortable 4-1 victory against FC Porto on Wednesday night at their Estádio do Dragão Stadium.
Liverpool's front three in Sadio Mane, Mohamed Salah, and Roberto Firmino were all on the scoresheet, with Dijk also registering one to give Liverpool an easy 6-1 win on aggregate.
Dijk, who put in another assured performance in Portugal, has now revealed that they will need to play together as a unit and defend as a team against Messi when the two giants meet for a place in the final of Europe's elite club competition.
"I don’t know, we’ll see. It’s going to be a great match-up for all of us. Obviously, we’re very happy to be in the semi-final again and that’s the only thing I can say. It’s about doing it all together, it’s never 1 vs 1, it’s never just me against a particular striker. It’s always us against everyone and I think that’s the only way we can defend well. And it’s going to be very hard and I think he’s the best player in the world but we’ll see," he said while speaking to Viasport Fotball.
Messi was the talk of the night on Tuesday after he inspired his side to a 3-0 victory against Manchester United, scoring a brace and dictating play through the 90 minutes.
He has been in sensational form this season and has already notched 45 goals.
