After bagging a hat-trick in the 3-0 win over Athletic Bilbao, Real Madrid manager Zinedine Zidane has hailed Karim Benzema as the best forward in the world.

Benzema has been one of the few bright sparks in an otherwise dreary campaign for Real Madrid and his hat-trick at the Santiago Bernabeu took his tally to 30 goals for the season. The win took Madrid close to assuring a Champions League place next season and keeps them four points off their cross-town rivals Atletico Madrid while they maintain their 13 points gap between them and log leaders Barcelona.

Speaking in a press conference after the win over Bilbao, Zidane heaped praise on Benzema, "What he has done here over 10 years means everything. For me he is the best, but others might disagree." Zidane, however, felt sorry for Gareth Bale who failed to get on the scoresheet, "The shame was he had a chance to score and I felt sorry for him because I would have liked him to score today."
