Pochettino hopes Eriksen signs new Tottenham contract

24 Apr 2019, 07:00

Tottenham boss Mauricio Pochettino is hopeful Christian Eriksen will commit his future to the club by signing a new contract.

The Denmark international scored a last gasp winner as Spurs took charge of their top four chances with a vital 1-0 win against a resilient Brighton side on Tuesday night.

With his current deal expiring in 2020, the 27-year-old has been linked with a summer move to La Liga giants Real Madrid but Pochettino remains hopeful he will commit his future to the club at the end of the season.

"It is a situation that is a very special situation, Christian is a special person, I think we are all special, different and we need to understand that," he told Sky Sports after the win.

"The timing for him or for the club to be agreeing something are maybe different to another player.

"I hope and I wish Christian can be with us in the future but I think Christian and us we are so open to talk and we will see what happens."
