Whyvonne Isua scored his seventh goal of the season to help AFC Leopards to a 2-1 win over Bandari FC in a Kenyan Premier League (KPL) clash staged at the Kenyatta Stadium-Machakos on Sunday 28 April.
Just as in their midweek game against Kariobangi Sharks, Leopards depended on Harambee Stars winger to launch a series of their attacks and it was no surprise when he played a huge role in the opener.
The former Greece based player was to be put through by David Ochieng, he raced past his markers in the byline with a terrific speed before squaring the ball to the hovering Vincent Oburu to tap in past Faruk Shikhalo in the 15th minute; a lead they were to preserve until the break.
On resumption, Bandari FC head coach Bernard Mwalala threw in former Muhoroni Youth winger Benjamin Mosha to boost his attack at the expense of Yeama Mwana who looked inactive in the first half.
They were not to wait long for the equalizer and it came through a familiar face in Alex Orotomal. The lanky striker, having featured for Leopards last season was to tap in from close range in the 58th minute after Hamisi Mwinyi had sent in a ball in the Leopards box which they failed to deal with.
Leopards were to withdraw Isaac Kipyegon for Dennis Sikhayi in the 66th minute; the former having clashed with Bandari winger Abdalla Hassan earlier on.
Leopards were to reclaim their lead in the 76th minute through Whyvonne Isuza. Brian Marita who had been a menace on the right wing easily beat off his marker before swinging in a cross that found the unmarked Isuza in the box, the midfielder who mistimed the ball was to see his flabby fluff dupe keeper Shikhalo and into the net for his seventh goal of the season.
Leopards were to withdraw Marita for Tatuye Yeka with Bandari withdrawing Hamisi Mwinyi for Dan Guya.
Bandari was to come close again five minutes from time when Mosha and William Wadri to combine well in the opposition box but the latter decided to square the ball to Mosha who was already in an offside position instead of shooting with keeper Eric Bekame only to beat.
With five additional minutes, Bandari came knocking again in the 91st minute when Wadri’s diving header was to parried by Bakame for a fruitless corner with Leopards defence having gone to sleep.
Leopards had an opportunity to make the points safe in the dying minutes after a quick counter-attack fell to Were but the winger shot straight to Shikhalo much to the amazement of their fans.
