Berekum Chelsea explain cause of violence before Kotoko game

Ghana Premier League side Berekum Chelsea have chronicled and frowned upon the violence that broke out before last weekend’s game against Asante Kotoko.

According to reports on Sunday,  Berekum Chelsea and stadium officials at the Nana Gyeabuor Park attacked two Kotoko officials, resulting in them getting hospitalized after suffering various bloody injuries.

Berekum’s letter, published to the media this morning, sets the record straight on the unfortunate events of the day, including:

  • Kotoko officials’ alleged refusal to pay gate fees.
  • A Kotoko official forcing his way into the pitch to sprinkle a particular substance on the field.
  • A supporter wearing a Kotoko jersey attacked a stadium official.
  • Kotoko’s CEO Dr. George Amoako later arrived at the venue and apologised after getting a briefing of the incidences.
