Real Madrid forward, Gareth Bale failed to make the 18-man squad for their LaLiga clash against Villareal with manager Zinedine Zidane refusing to be drawn on the debate of his future at the club.
A brace from Mariano and a strike from Jesus Vallejo earned three points for Real Madrid as they look to finish their domestic season on a high having secured Champions League qualification. With Karim Benzema currently nursing an injury, Bale was tipped to start the match but he did not even make an appearance on the substitutes bench.
Speaking in a press conference after the 3-2 win over Villareal, Zidane was asked if dropping Bale casts a doubt on his future at the club, "I’m the coach, I have to pick the team and that’s all there is to it. “You can interpret it as you wish. I need to pick a squad of players and some are going to miss out.”
Bale has been rumored to be on the radar of Manchester United who seek to rebuild their squad after a poor season that will see them finish outside the top four.
