Chelsea 1-1 Eintracht Frankfurt (2-2 Agg) Chelsea win on penalties to book Europa League final date with Arsenal

Chelsea booked a place in the final of the Europa League final after beating Eintracht Frankfurt 4-3 on post-match penalties after a remarkable night of drama at Stamford Bridge.

Chelsea came into the match on the back of a 1-1 draw from the first leg in Germany last week and only needed to avoid a defeat of any kind to progress into the final.

On form Ruben Loftus-Cheek opened the scoring for the home side on 28 minutes after great work form Eden Hazard who beat two defenders with his quick feet before coolly sending the England midfielder free on goal with only Trapp to beat which he did with ease, sending the ball into the bottom right-hand corner.

Second half.

Despite controlling proceedings, the home side wasted numerous chances to kill off the game and it was the visitors who found an expected equaliser four minutes after the break when Luka Jovic slipped the ball past a hapless Kepa for his 27th goal of the season.

Full-time 1-1.

Despite numerous chances for both sides, neither could get the winning goal even after extra-time and penalties came into play.

The match seemed to slip away from Chelsea after captain César Azpilicueta missed his penalty but momentum swung back in their favour after two misses by Martin Hinteregger and Goncalo Paciencia for the Bundesliga club.

Eden Hazard scored the winning goal for the Blues to book a spot in an all English Europa League final against Arsenal in Baku later this month.
