Mamelodi Sundowns coach Pitso Mosimane has advised Bafana Bafana coach Stuart Baxter on how to rejuvenate Sundowns players ahead of the AFCON 2019.
The former Bafana coach speaks ahead of this weekend’s Absa Premiership finale, before Baxter soon names his squad ahead of flying to Egypt by 21 June.
With several Sundowns players sure to make the trip, Mosimane has highlighted how his men are fatigued after two back to back seasons in the CAF Champions league.
“I don’t know if he [Baxter] sees it the way I see it but if he wants to get the best out of Sundowns’ players at Afcon‚ he will need to regenerate and bring them back,” Mosimane told Times Live.
“And how do you do that – you don’t train‚” Mosimane said.
With the likes of Themba Zwane and Hlompho Kekana having played 38 and 44 games respectively, Mosimane described them as simply being ‘finished.’
“He [Baxter] is going to have flat players at the tournament but he is an experienced coach. He understands and probably he will communicate because guys like Hlompho Kekana and Themba Zwane are finished.
“They just pitch for the match – I don’t talk tactics with them because they know what is happening. They have been here for many years and I hope that Stuart Baxter understands where we are‚” concluded the 2016 CAF coach of the year.
South Africa begin the tournament against Ivory Coast Tuesday 24 June in Cairo.
Meanwhile, Sundowns finish off the season at Free State Stars tomorrow.
