Gor Mahia beats Sofapaka to inch closer to the title

12 May 2019, 18:20

Gor Mahia inched closer to bagging the 2018/19 Kenyan Premier League title after registering a 2-0 win over close challengers Sofapaka on Sunday 12 May at the Moi Stadium-Kisumu.

After a goalless first half, Gor were to take the lead through Samuel Onyango in the 56th minute before Jacques Tuyisenge ensured the points were safe with a goal fourteen minutes from time.

The win increases Gor’s points tally to 66, ten points above second-placed Sofapaka and with four games left to the culmination of the league.

Rivals AFC Leopards

A win against Nzoia Sugar in their next match might as well hand them the title with a duel against arch-rivals AFC Leopards coming up next after the Nzoia game.

In other games of the day, Tusker FC left it late to earn a point against Nzoia Sugar at the Ruaraka Grounds with the shock result of the day being witnessed at the Kericho Green Stadium where hosts Zoo Kericho saw off Ulinzi Stars 2-1.
