English club reacts to Mikel's selection in Nigeria AFCON squad

English Championship club Middlesbrough has reacted after captain John Obi Mikel was named in Nigeria's provisional squad for the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations.

Mikel, who captained the team at the 2018 FIFA World Cup in Russia, has not been with the group since Nigeria’s elimination from the finals after a 1-2 defeat by Argentina in Saint Petersburg.

However, a recent meeting with Coach Rohr in the United Kingdom sealed his return to the three –time African champions, with the possibility of adding to his 85 international caps.

Middlesbrough has now rejoiced with the 32-year-old, and wished him goodluck.

"Good luck to @mikel_john_obi, who has been named in Nigeria's provisional squad for the #AFCON 🇳🇬🦅 #SuperEagles #UTB" Middlesbrough tweeted on Wednesday.
