Arsenal blasts Uefa over Europa League finals venue

16 May 2019, 15:30

Arsenal have written to Eufa asking for an explanation as to how the arrived on Baku's Olympic Stadium to host the 2019 Europa League finals.

This comes amid fears from the club that their fans might find it rough travelling the long trip to Azerbaijan, with some already battling to secure flights and accommodation for the May 29 showpiece.

“However, we are bitterly disappointed by the fact that due to transport limitations UEFA can only make a maximum of 6,000 tickets available to Arsenal for a stadium with a capacity of well over 60,000," read a statement from the club.

“We have received many complaints from our fans about this and we fully share their concerns. On behalf of our fans, we would like to understand the criteria by which venues are selected for finals, and also how supporter requirements are taken into account as part of this," the statement further indicated.

Arsenal have already raised concern over security reasons, further requesting for special security for Henrik Mkhitaryan.

The Armenian has been caught in a heated political and diplomatic standoff between Azerbaijan and Armenia, meaning he might miss the finals if the club will feel his safety will be at risk.

He already missed a group match between the Gunners and Qarabag due to the same reason.

Arsenal is awaiting a response from the organising body.
