Mamelodi Sundowns billionaire president Patrice Motsepe has revealed why he’s never been shy to offer big salaries at the club.
Motsepe’s name made a big come back into football conversations in the past week after Sundowns won the Absa Premiership title.
With the prize money of R10 million, Motsepe quickly and unsurprisingly informed the players that they will share the sum among themselves. In fact it was reported he is adding a couple more millions to the 10.
“It saddens me immensely when I meet a former football player who played for Sundowns while I was the president and you can see that his financial position is not as it should be‚” said Motsepe to Times Live.
“Sometimes we really have to do harder in terms of saying to them that you must begin to save some of your money.
"Some of them make me proud because they do their best in investment opportunities.
The mining tycoon further revealed that one of his motivations to enter this business was to improve the livelihood of footballers.
“When I got into football‚ one of the main objectives was to try and make sure the salaries‚ living conditions and the pay of the players is good‚" he said.
"I knew that if I paid them very well‚ other clubs would do the same."
