Gor Mahia head coach Hassan Oktay has lauded opponents Vihiga United after the two sides settled for a 1-1 draw in a match staged at Kenyatta Stadium, Machakos on Wednesday 22nd.

Despite sharing spoils, the Greeny Army retained the title following a goalless draw between second placed Bandari FC and Mathare United earlier in the day. K’Ogalo took the lead in the first half through Charles Saramu Momanyi but a header from Amos Kigadi in the second half saw the two sides settle for a 1-1 draw.

Oktay admitted it is always challenging to play against teams which are fighting for survival, unlike the top six teams.

“The game was really tough, as I said before I would rather second or third position rather than relegation battle teams,” he said after the game.

“I have to give Vihiga United credits, they really played very well. We had first-half chances we didn't take them as well as second. It is not a bad result for us,” he added.

Gor, who will now retain the title for good will be presented with the KPL trophy at the same venue on Saturday 25th when they take on Posta Rangers.
