Q&A: Duke Abuya speaks on facing Everton and Kariobangi Sharks' woeful run

Kariobangi Sharks midfielder Duke Abuya has been the shining light in an otherwise dark season for the club with his form earning him a call up to the Harambee Stars CHAN squad. I caught up with the former Mathare United player for a brief interview.

Your team is currently on a woeful run of 15 games with only a single win, where do you think the problem lays?

At the moment things are tough but we hope results will change, maybe we use the remaining games to have good momentum heading into next season. We play well but we end up conceding goals then we lose games so I can’t really pinpoint where the problem is.

You recently scored against KCB and still ended up on the losing end, how disappointing is that?

It was an equalizer but I guess it was just a concentration lapse that led to us losing, obviously when you score and end up on the losing side you always feel bad.

After an impressive Super Cup in Tanzania, you have been linked with a move to Young Africans (Yanga), how true are this speculations?

I can’t speak about that now, right now I’m just focused on getting the team back to winning ways, I’m not thinking about any transfers.

Will you still be a Sharks player come next season?

I’m not sure but hopefully, I’ll still be at the club but if God provides another challenge I will accept it.

Have any teams approached you over a possible transfer?

There are many but as I said earlier I can’t really talk about any transfers because my focus is elsewhere.

Are you confident you can turn around your results before meeting Everton on Sunday 7th July?

That is a game that we must turn out and give our all and I pray that it will be a good game and hopefully by then we would have already discovered what we are not doing right and have an entertaining game. I’m sure it won’t be an embarrassment because we have been on a bad run, we are very positive about the game.

What do you look forward to in a match of such high magnitude?

It is a dream to play such a side, I have never thought I would play Everton in my career so it is a dream come true.

You have two games remaining till the end of the season, what are your targets for the remaining games?

We want to win all our remaining games and salvage our season.
