Brighton & Hove Albion's Mali international Yves Bissouma has been ruled of the Africa Cup of Nations tournament with a shoulder injury.
Brighton confirmed to the media that the midfielder is set to undergo surgery on his shoulder in the upcoming weeks.
According to BBC Sport reports, the 22-year-old is likely to miss the start of the 2019/20 season.
Bissouma initially joined the Seagulls two years ago from Lille.
According to the club, the youngster had been feeling discomfort in his injury towards the end of the 2018/19 season.
Mali, however, suffer a massive blow to their preparations with Bissouma's absence ahead of the African tournament set to kick off on June 21.
The Eagles will be in the United Arab Emirates for a training camp ahead of the finals and will face Algeria in a friendly in Abu Dhabi as both sides prepare for the tournament.
Mali will begin their Nations Cup campaign against debutants Mauritania in Suez on 24 June before facing Tunisia four days later and then Angola on 2 July in Ismailia in their final Group E game.
