Carzola reveals his only Arsenal regret

Former Arsenal midfielder Santi Carzola has said leaving without saying a proper goodbye on the pitch is his only regret with the London club.

The 34-year-old left last summer after a series of injuries but has built a flourishing career in his home country with Villareal and getting on top of his game, prompting a national team call-up.

The Spain international suffered an Achilles problem, which limited him to 11 appearances in the 2016/17 season and did not feature entirely in the 2017/18 season, leaving at the end of the campaign after the expiry of his contract.

“If there is one thing I have taken from there it is the warmth of the people, and the worst thing is that I wasn’t able to say goodbye to them on the pitch," he said as quoted by Evening Standard.

He further revealed that he never expected to get a national team call-up, and it was an unexpected feeling when he learned about it.

“It was something unthinkable to return to the national team. I just hoped to play again. It’s a dream that was very far away, but one that I am realizing now," he added.

Spain will play Faroe Islands and Sweden this week in Euro qualifying matches.
