After pipping Liverpool to the English Premier League title by a single point, Pep Guardiola has revealed that the title race brought the best out of Manchester City last season.
Liverpool registered the third highest points tally in the Premier League era but still managed to lose the title to City who amassed 98 points. City won each of their final 14 league games to beat Jurgen Klopp's side to the title on the final day of the season, with the Anfield outfit's wait for a league title extending to 30 years.
In an interview with This is Premier League, the review of the 2018/19 season, Guardiola spoke on how Liverpool's title push brought the best out of his team, "The fact we played these 14 games knowing if we draw a game or if we lose a game it will be difficult to retain the title.
"I think they helped us to be a better team, I am 100 percent convinced on that. The value of your title depends on the quality of your contender, your big rival, and I cannot find a better one than Liverpool."
