With Harambee Stars head coach Sebastien Migne naming his provisional squad for the upcoming African Cup of Nations in Egypt, Futaa looks at the profiles of the players that will represent Kenya in the continental showpiece.
DOB: January 31, 1993
Current Club: Gor Mahia, Kenya
Previous Club: Western Stima FC
More than a few observers felt that when Gor Mahia roped in Joash Onyango in 2017, they had signed the wrong player. With age not on his side and with Musa Mohammed partnering a young Haron Shakva then, many thought it was just another deal to fatten a few pockets.
While the jury is still out on his age, Joash has proved a rock for Gor Mahia in their continental journey and has been a good servant for the national team too.
When called by head coach Sebastien Migne to start at the heart of defence (this after David Owino had picked an injury days before) against a much-fancied Ghana team in Kasarani, Joash took the opportunity with both hands. He was to receive his marching orders in the game but had a performance that left everyone in awe.
He is in a position that has more than three able players and even though his starting slot might be taken by Brian Mandela, Joash will surely be a reliable option for Migne in the AFCON showpiece.
