Harambee Stars Player Profile: Paul Were

With Harambee Stars, head coach Sebastien Migne naming his squad for the upcoming 2019 African Cup of Nations tournament in Egypt, Futaa looks at the profiles of the players who will represent Kenya in the continental showpiece.

Paul Were Ooko

DOB: October 8, 1993

Current Club: AFC Leopards, Kenya

Previous Clubs:  AO Trikala (Greece), FC Kaysar (Kazakhstan), PS Kalamata (Greece), Archanaikos (Greece), AEL Kalloni (Greece) Amazulu FC (South Africa), Tusker FC (Kenya)

Were is always a man on the move and it won't come as a surprise if he makes another after the African Cup of Nations. He is another player who divides opinions among fans after featuring for more than three teams in Greece in the past two seasons.

At one point many had thought his chances of featuring for the national team were bleak after struggling to get a proper club but his perseverance and dedication every time he has been handed a call to the national team has endeared him close to the coach.

Migne influence

With AFCON drawing closer, Were admitted that it was coach Migne who had advised him to come back home with AFC Leopards if he was to boost his chances of making it to his team.

He arrives in AFCON as a back up to Timbe and either Kahata/Eric Johanna on the wings but he is another player who Migne would likely to throw in if he wants to spice up his attack.
