After months of speculations surrounding his future, Manchester United are set to offer Juan Mata a new three-year deal following lengthy negotiations.
According to Spanish newspaper Sport, the player has agreed to stay until 2022. Mata’s current deal at United expires at the end of June but it is understood negotiations over a new deal have gone positively. The attack-minded midfielder has scored 45 goals in 218 appearances for United and a new contract will be a boost for a club in the midst of change.
When asked in May about the offer Mata had received, manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer told Sky Sports, "Yeah, fantastic person, fantastic player. Of course it’s up to him, he knows I’ve had words with him, he knows how highly I regard him. And I was so pleased for him last week. It would’ve been so much nicer to talk about Juan scoring the winning goal against Chelsea and his performance. He’s a top, top pro and let’s see if they manage to agree."
