The teenage Portugal international has attracted interest from elite clubs around Europe but it seems that he's destined for a move to the Spanish capital.
João Felix from Benfica to Atlético Madrid, here we go! Total agreement with the player for 5 years contract, the clubs are now finalizing last details then the deal will be done. ⚪️🔴 #Atleti #Benfica #transfers— Fabrizio Romano (@FabrizioRomano) June 19, 2019
Fabrizio Romano tweeted last night that his sources confirmed to him that a deal was imminent and should be finalised today, with the player currently in Madrid.
Antoine Griezmann is leaving the club this summer and reports suggest that Barcelona is his destination. Atlético’s chief executive Miguel Ángel Gil Marín admitted that Atlético has known this since March but Barcelona has yet to confirm the deal.
Félix scored 15 goals and provided nine assists last season in the Portuguese league and debuted for Portugal in the UEFA Nations League semifinal. The reported €120m deal for him would shatter the club-record €70 million signing of Thomas Lemar last summer. It would also come as a blow to Pep Guardiola and Manchester City, who were rumoured to be interested. Félix will scoop €6 million a year with Diego Simeone's side.
We will update you on this story as it develops.
