Nigeria registered a 1-0 win over Guinea in an AFCON Group B game in a match staged at Alexandria Stadium on Wednesday 26th.
Following a 1-0 win over Burundi in the Group B match opener, Nigeria were keen to maintain their 100 percent start to the tournament as they took on Guinea. Meanwhile, Guinea were held to a 2-2 draw by Madagascar in their opener and their match against the Eagles was a must win if they were to keep their dreams of advancing to knock out stages alive.
Guinea saw much of the possession in the first half of the game but it was Nigeria who had clear chances of scoring but could not capitalize. Nigeria could have taken the lead in the 32nd minute as Ighalo, one on one with the keeper on the right side of the pitch, decided to take a shot instead of passing to Musa who was waiting for a tap in. The Shanghai Greenland Shenhua forward’s low shot kissed the side of the net leaving the unmarked Musa frustrated.
Nigeria finally took the lead in the 73rd minute with a nice header after a searching pass from Moses Simon.
The win takes Nigeria top of group B with six points after two matches while Madagascar and Burundi are second and third respectively with one point. Burundi are rooted at the bottom of the group without a point after suffering a 1-0 defeat in the match opener.
