  • Riyaad Mahrez, Sadio Mane and Victor Wanyama in action.

Four Southern & Eastern nations will fight against African giants this evening. The likes of South Africa, Kenya, and Tanzania will look to men such as Percy Tau, Mbwana Samatta and Victor Wanyama to upset sides that feature world superstars like Mahrez and Mane.

Futaa takes a look at why key players need to make a difference.

South Africa’s Tau against Morocco

The Brighton & Alboin star, on loan at Belgium’s Royale Union Saint-Gilloise knows he carries Bafana Bafana’s hopes in search of at least a draw to make the last 16.

Tau’s relatively anonymous performance against the Ivory Coast in the first game saw a Man of the Match response in the follow up 1-0 win against Namibia last Friday. We can expect an inspired Tau to influence SA’s progression against giants Morocco this evening.

Zaha's pace to terrorize Namibia’s defence?

Following shock omissions from the line up in the previous two games, Ivory Coast head coach Ibrahim Kamara is under pressure to start Wilfred Zaha against Namibia and a last 16 progression is at stake. Kamara explained why Zaha did not feature against Morocco, while promising to include him this evening.

“Wilf is part of our plans, today I wanted to bring him on but unfortunately Aurier was injured so we had to bring a defender on, so I think the next match - we hope to go further - everyone will be invested, and definitely yes, Wilfried will be involved,” Kamara said after the game.

Mahrez to lead outclassing of Tanzania?

Manchester City star Mahrez eased pressure on himself as far as inspiring Algeria at AFCON 2019. The Algerian star scored in his side’s 2-0 win over Kenya last Sunday. That output is therefore expected to see a confident dangerous Mahrez against Tanzania this evening.

Wanyama and Mane to shoulder national hopes

Tottenham Hotspur and Kenyan icon Wanyama described this evening’s clash as a ‘final.’ "That game is a final for us and we will hopefully put everything and fight for everything to make sure we get something as well. Now we have confidence going into the next match," Wanyama told Goal.

On the opposite side, Liverpool star Mane will be hungry to make his presence felt at his year’s AFCON. Mane is yet to dish out what he is in Egypt for: create and score goals for the Lions of Teranga. The 26-year-old missed the first game against Tanzania, before returning to start in the 1-0 loss to Algeria. Tonight is therefore the night for Mane to show his nation he is the same player they often watch dazzle defenders in a Liverpool shirt.
