Cameroon goalkeeper Andre Onana asserts that they will face their hardest challenge yet at the Africa Cup of Nations tournament when they take on Nigeria in the round of 16 tie on Saturday.
The defending champions made it to the knock out stages without losing a single match, winning one and drawing three to book a date with one of their perennial rivals.
Onana, who has been outstanding for the side, however, knows it will be a daunting task, but they are prepared nonetheless.
“We have total respect for the Super Eagles. They are a good side and can improve on what they have shown so far is this competition, “Onana told reporters at the Alexandria Stadium on Friday.
The two sides have served sumptuous clashes in the past, with the Super Eagles winning the last of the duels when they beat the Indomitable Lions 5-1 on aggregate to deny them a chance at the Russia World Cup in 2018.
Onana is however not thinking of avenging that defeat and will train his eyes on a quarterfinal berth.
“The defeat to Nigeria in the World Cup qualifiers is all in the past, and tomorrow’s game is a different ball game. We are confident and relaxed ahead of the game. it’s what we’ve been training for,"
“We expect a tough game against the Super Eagles. We know it will be tough. I’m preparing myself well and I am ready to play against them.”
Nigeria will hope to put the 2-0 defeat to Madagascar in their last group match aside when they take on Cameroon, knowing any slight loss of concentration will see them eliminated.
