Chelsea boss Frank Lampard has revealed he will give midfielder Danny Drinkwater and Michy Batshuayi a chance to resurrect their careers.
The pair was included in the squad that jetted off to Dublin on Friday to start preparation under the new boss ahead of friendlies against Bohemians and St Patrick’s.
"Everybody who joins up tomorrow, and it will be staggered, will have the opportunity to show what they can do, their attitude, the way they play and train in pre-season onwards," Lampard said.
"I would be a fool to come here with ideas about 'I'm going to freeze anybody out'. I want to get the best out of the squad. Everybody has an opportunity. I have no preconceived ideas about anybody, I have got a good knowledge of the squad but I need to see them over the next month."
Batshuayi has returned early for pre-season in a bid to impress Chelsea’s new head coach and stake a claim for a place up front in his side. Meanwhile, Drinkwater, who failed to make a single competitive appearance under Maurizio Sarri will also be keen to revive his career under Lampard.
