Ahmed Musa has 'pleaded' with Egyptian fans to rally behind them when Nigeria will take on Algeria in the semifinals of the ongoing Africa Cup of Nations tournament.
Musa captained the Super Eagles in their 2-1 victory over South Africa in the quarterfinals, with most Egyptians behind the West African side as a result of Bafana Bafana knocking their nation out of the tournament.
"The win is important. We knew it was not going to be easy. All we had in our mind was winning the game and we are glad to do that at the end of the day," Musa said.
"We expected that we would win, but we have to keep our head calm," he added.
"We scored the first goal but they equalised. We knew the goal would eventually come and had to be patient. Finally, it came in the 90th minute,"
"They should keep supporting us. It's good that Egyptian fans came out to support us. We want to say thank you to them for everything."
Nigeria have a remarkable record at the competition, having played in the finals seven times each time they've made it to the semifinals out of a possible 15.
They play Algeria on Sunday.
