Arsenal have identified Benfica defender Ruben Dias as a potential replacement for the club captain Laurent Koscielny.
Koscielny refused to travel with the rest of teammates to the United States for the pre-season tour. It has provided Arsenal boss Unai Emery with headache as the Frenchman wants to leave during this summer as he is targeted by Ligue 1 clubs Bordeaux, Rennes, and Lyon.
As reported by MailOnline, signing a defender could become a priority for the Gunners following Koscielny’s refusal to head to the US. Dias is back on Arsenal’s radar after they initially ruled out a move for the Portugal international earlier this summer. The 22-year-old has a €66m (£57.6m) release clause in his deal with Benfica but Arsenal are hoping to negotiate a lower fee with the Portuguese champions.
Arsenal had looked for alternatives but with no success and have reportedly made him their top target to reinforce Emery’s options in central defence.
