Red Arrows coach targets continental football

Red Arrows coach Chisi Mbewe has set his sights on qualifying for Continental football this coming season.

Red Arrows lost out on a continental slot by goal difference on the final day. Mbewe told Futaa Zambia in an interview that his team would work extra hard to make sure they qualify for Continental football.

" Our target this season is to compete in the Champions League. We need to work hard because it won't be easy. We have to stay focused. The only way to win is to prepare well," he said.

"We thank God for the good run we had in the transitional league despite the difficulties. Coming to the new season it will be long with 17 teams to face but what's important thing is preparation. The 6 weeks cycle of the preseason and the players we need. We need a wider pool of players now because it will be a long season," he added.

Veteran striker James Chamanga extended his contract with the Airmen much to the joy of Chisi Mbewe. The team also signed Hope Katwishi from Kitwe United, Chisi is hopeful the two will bring a lot of competition in his team.

"Yes am very happy with the bringing in of Hope Katwishi and the extension of Chamanga's contract although we wanted to reinforce about four players we have managed two recruits two. We have reinforced were we had difficulties which are the strikeforce and the two will help us score goals," he said.

"It's a big motivation to have chamanga. We know his caliber He is a typical Number nine. I think the bringing in of Hope will bring a lot of competition and I feel this is the season we will score a lot of goals."

Arrows are currently in Kitwe for a 10-day camp as they intensify preparations for the 2019/2020 MTN/FAZ Superleague season.

" So far so good. We appreciate the effort of our sponsors who have made it possible for us to come here for a ten-day preseason, "he said.

Red Arrows last played in CAF Competitions back in 2012 when they were eliminated in the preliminary stage of the CAF Confederation Cup by Royal Leopards of Eswatini.
